Although aesthetically pleasing, blackletter typefaces are often times designed to be display typefaces and are completely illegible as body copy.
Gestekte is neither a sans serif or blackletter. It’s a hybrid font that pulls elements from traditional blackletter typefaces while maintaining the simplicity and ease of legibility of sans serif typefaces.
The 45 degree angle slants are reminiscent of traditional blackletter typefaces and the calligraphic techniques used to create them, while the geometric even stroke widths lends a nod towards towards sans serif typefaces. The type specimen poster design is based off of calligraphy posters of the 1900’s.
